Your first choice for dental implants
Dental implants are artificial tooth replacements. Developed over a half century ago, today’s dental implant techniques provide a wide range of tooth replacement solutions, including:
- Single-tooth replacement
- Full upper or lower arch replacement
- Implant-supported dentures
- Mini-dental implants
A root implant is, by far, the most popular and effective type of dental implant. It matches the size, shape and strength of your natural tooth. First, dental implant specialist Dr. Adibe places the implant or artificial root into the jawbone under local anesthesia. Dental implants can often be placed at the time of an extraction, if conditions allow. Once the dental implant integrates with the jawbone, it is ready for the placement of a restoration, or artificial tooth.
When healing is complete, Dr. Adibe fits the new tooth restoration. The process usually takes about three to eight months. Depending on each patient’s unique needs and anatomy, dental implants can be one- or two-piece designs. One-piece dental implants are placed in the bone with a preshaped post that sits above the gum tissue. The crown is placed on this post in three to four months. Two-piece deental implants have a root shape that is placed in the bone and covered for three to four months. At three to four months, it is uncovered. A special post is placed on the top portion of the dental implant above the gum.
New and less invasive alternatives
Mini-dental implants have a smaller diameter and can be placed in narrow spaces as well as used to support dentures. No bone is removed in the placement of these deental implants. Mini-dental implants can be placed immediately and the denture can be secured at the same appointment. Typically, two to four of these mini-dental implants will be placed to stabilize a denture. They are placed immediately. There is no need to wait for the healing process to complete.
